An elderly Toronto man is dead following a head-on collision on Trafalgar Road, just north of Dundas Street Sunday.

Police said the 79-year-old man died when his car collided with another occupied by two adults and two young children at 5 p.m.

The dead man’s name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

Halton police Sergeant Brian Carr said the man was driving southbound on Trafalgar Road just south of Burnhamthorpe Road when for unknown reasons his car drifted across the centre line and collided with a small, northbound SUV.

Both vehicles ended up in the ditch.

Carr  said the London, Ont., man and his wife and two children three months and two years,  in the second car were taken to Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Halton police say alcohol and speed were not factors in the collision, which is still under investigation.
