The chill of winter comes with the thrill of Canadian traditions. Step out into the cold at a winter festival event this weekend. If the snow isn't your thing, sign up for the Chocolate Fest fundraiser coming Thursday or visit the RV show and sale this weekend.

RV Show

Summer promises abound at the annual Hamilton RV Show and Sale happening this weekend at the newly opened Careport Centre, 270 Longwood Rd. S. Hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. tomorrow. Admission is $23 for family, $18 for a couple or $10 regular. rvshowhamilton.ca

Winterfest

Here is a list of Hamilton Winterfest happenings this weekend.

Today -- Winterfest in Gore Park. Opening ceremonies begin at noon, followed by a tribute to High School Musical, lumberjack games and more.

Tomorrow -- A fun family day at Gourley Park from noon to 2 p.m. Horse and wagon rides, lumberjack games, obstacle course, games and ice-skating (weather permitting). Gourley Park is on the west Mountain off Stone Church Road and West 5th Street.

Tomorrow -- Go big for the lumberjack games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Central Park, located along Wentworth Street North south of Burlington Street. Games for the children, horse and wagon rides, hot dogs, hot apple cider and hot chocolate.

Tomorrow -- Pancake breakfast at Rosedale Arena, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $3 for adults and $2 for children.

Tomorrow -- Friends of Gage Park partners with the Children's Museum for outdoor activities and a barbecue from noon to 4 p.m.

Black History Month

February is Black History Month. The 14th annual Rev. John C. Holland Awards take place this evening at the Michelangelo Banquet Centre, 1555 Upper Ottawa St., starting at 6:30 p.m. Call 905-527-5651.

Burlington Winter Carnival

The Burlington Family Winter Carnival comes to an end this weekend.

One of the carnival's biggest attractions, the Lowville Winter Games, is tomorrow from noon to 4 p.m. at Lowville Park. This free outdoor event includes horse-drawn wagon rides, live music, tobogganing, skating, snowboarding, line dancing, log sawing and pancake eating contests, crafts and treats.

* The Burlington Challenge Basketball Invitational wraps up today at Lester B. Pearson and Nelson high schools.

* The 16th annual Sno-Pitch tournament is today.

* The 7th annual Snow Bowl touch football tournament is today.

Conservation vision

The launch of the Cootes to Escarpment Park System vision is today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the RBG Nature Interpretive Centre off Old Guelph Road. Find out everything you need to know about this conservation plan. Outdoor activities such as skating, hiking, snowshoeing and more will follow the reception and ceremony. Snowshoe hike

The Moonlight Snowshoe Hike happens this evening from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. up at Crawford Lake Conservation Area in Campbellville. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children, and registration is required. A guide will lead the snowshoe hike through the conservation area, ending with a fireside gathering. Call 905-854-0234.

Chocolate Fest

The sixth annual Chocolate Fest is sure to sweeten your week. This fundraiser for the Sexual Assault Centre (Hamilton and Area) is this Thursday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $25. The Chocolate Fest and silent auction are being held at LIUNA Station, 360 James St. N. Call 905-525-4573. sacha.ca

Kidsfest

Making plans for Family Day? Think about Hamilton's Kidsfest at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum Feb. 13 to 15. More than a dozen inflatable playground activities will be there. Admission is $17 for an all-day ride bracelet and $10 for a non-ride bracelet. Admission includes access to the museum.
